Quick 6 Travel Tips

Recently we posted about making your holiday visit a success. As we do with the products for our gift boxes, we’ve curated the top travel tips that, above all others, make the biggest difference for a successful trip – anytime of year.

  1. Prevent the dreaded “declined”: Call your bank or credit card company and let them know you’re traveling and where you’re going. This will ensure no holds are placed on your account due to suspicious activity away from your home state.
  2. Pack for reality: You may think you’ll need 4 pairs of shoes and ten outfits, but if you can realistically get by with the shoes you’ll travel in and one pair in your suitcase, it’ll make your baggage much lighter and you won’t have to worry about whether your luggage will be in the weight guidelines. Better yet, if you can pull off just a carry-on, do it. Consult the Packpoint app for tips on packing guidelines based on your trip location, length, and expected activities.
  3. You can’t take it all: Instead of packing a suitcase full of gifts, send gifts through theomahagiftcompany.com so that gifts arrive when you want them to and don’t end up in Dallas when you’re going to Denver. Hostess gifts can be sent through us upon your return from your trip.
  4. Your carry-on must haves: High quality protein bars, a portable charger for your phone, headphones (AirPods, ear buds, whatever format you prefer). It’s not always easy to find decent food at the airport nor do you have time to wait in line for food while making a connection. Having a portable charger rather than relying on the airport USB ports means safer phone charging and your phone can charge while you’re making your way to the next gate. Headphones or ear buds make it easier for you to tune out the noise or catch up on podcasts during your down time.
  5. Make your smart phone smarter: Have apps downloaded on your phone ahead of time that will make things easier on you. Uber, Airbnb, Packpoint as mentioned above, and a host of others can be found in this article on best travel apps.
  6. Speak it: The Voice Memos app on your phone is your friend. This gets separate, special mention because inevitably at the most inopportune times, you will remember tasks, have creative ideas, need to take note of certain items and pulling out a pen and notebook will not be practical. Tap the app, record your thoughts, and move on with your day.

We believe that the simpler things are, the better. When you keep your travel habits to a minimum and to those that bring the most value to your personal needs, you’ll have a more enjoyable journey despite any delays, cancellations or cranky people that might come your way.
